About the Book
The Race Across America (RAAM).is a bicycle race like no other. Judged by Outside magazine to be the world’s toughest organized sports event, the objective is to pedal a bicycle along a defined route across the United States as fast as body and mind will support. Once the starter’s gun goes off the clock doesn’t stop until the finish line is crossed.
The race is a struggle for survival. And that struggle is the context and essence of this story about ultra-marathon cyclist Steve Born as he and his support crew make their way on this nearly 3000-mile trek on Interstates and back roads through some of the most demanding geography and weather America has to offer.
