About the Author

The author, Dennis Foster, (Trail name: Mountain Man) accomplished his life time dream when he hiked the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. He realized his goal at the top of Mt.Katahdifl, Maine, on August 25, 2001. He started his journey from Springer Mt., Georgia, on March 1st. Dennis grew up in the mountains of West Virginia and spent his early years hiking and camping along the Gauley and New rivers. He earned a B.S. Degree from West Virginia University Tech and a M.S. Degree from The University of Tennessee. He coached football and taught biology for thirty-five years in the Pinellas county school system, Florida. Dennis and his wife reside in Clearwater. They have a son, a daughter, and four grandchildren.
