About the Book

The book ‘A Blessing of Alzheimer’s’ bloomed in my thoughts while I cared for my Mother who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2007. The story delves into the mystery of Mom’s earlier life trying to understand why the feared disease targeted her. It wasn’t until after Mother’s death in 2010 when I discovered her hand written journals telling of her secret life filled with terrifying delusion and fear that only her husband knew of. The path she eventually took coxed her right off the edge of reality and into the waiting grasp of Alzheimer’s. I ultimately realized that Alzheimer’s had become Mom’s unlikely ally.

About the Author

Jennifer Artis, born in 1957, grew up with her sister, Jan and their loving parents, Alden and Joann in California. In 1980 she earned a B.A. in Business from Fresno State and landed her first job as an Operation Officer at Bank of America. In 1981 she married her best friend, Winthrop (Art) Artis and they recently celebrated their 30 year Anniversary. In 1981 they started Winthrop Farming Co. (hogs and almonds) for 15 years. They raised 3 wonderful children, Lavonne, Austin and Shea all the way through college at U.C.S.B. In 1989 Jennifer opened Excel Preschool for 14 years in their home town of Porterville. There she gained patience and understanding which proved invaluable when she took on the commitment of caring for her Mother with Alzheimer's disease.
