About the Book

Utilizing the actual lyric that Mr. Nirenstein wrote for his own music of the same title, "When You Make Out Your List For Christmas" is an exquisite example of this author's precise, yet eloquent, literary style. As a children's picture book, the lyric and photographs work together effectively--and poetically--to capture the true meaning of Christmas. Published in conjunction with this children's literary gem is the author/composer/lyricist David Joel Nirenstein's original sheet music to "When You Make Out Your List For Christmas" [ASCAP], copyrighted in 1969.

About the Author

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY David Joel Nirenstein Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, Mr. David Joel Nirenstein graduated from Brandeis University in 1956 with a B.A. in Creative Arts. Early in his writing career, Mr. Nirenstein gained employment as editorial assistant for G. and C. Merriam Company, during which time he worked on the production of Merriam-Webster’s 7th Collegiate Dictionary. More than two-dozen literary magazines in the United States and Canada have published his poetry, including The Stars and Stripes newspaper, Canadian Forum, and Poetry Digest. In addition to Mr. Nirenstein’s extensive collection of poetry, his writings include several children’s books, humorous vignettes, and philosophical essays. Also a talented composer and lyricist, Mr. Nirenstein wrote approximately one hundred compositions, including film themes, romantic ballads, and gospel and religious music. During the course of his adult life, Mr. Nirenstein worked tirelessly to promote his writing and music. In 1996, Bourne Company Music Publishers accepted “Lullaby: To Our Near and Distant Son”, a piano composition dedicated to his late infant son, Dana Stephen Nirenstein. Sadly, Mr. Nirenstein died in January 1998, leaving, as his legacy, a comprehensive collection of poetry and music, yet to be discovered by the public--until now.
