 When a man is murdered by a woman in a kinky sex act, the sheriff of a rural Florida county must examine his own relationships and his views about women before he can solve the crime. Among the suspects is the wife of the victim who the sheriff has long been secretly in love with and has admired as the epitome of Southern womanhood. But is her “sainthood” only in the sheriff’s mind or is she truly the ideal wife and lady and not the murderer? Equally beautiful and alluring to the sheriff is the intelligent and sophisticated college professor who is writing about the local people and had a motive for the murder. Whoever she is, the killer is a shrewd student of men’s sexual and emotional needs and uses their weaknesses to lure them to their death. The sheriff’s own loneliness and isolation could make him a vulnerable target for the killer, but the sheriff is also charming and has an appealing masculinity that has captured the hearts of many women. When he runs out of clues and hard evidence, the sheriff and the murderess get locked into a battle of the sexes in which only one of them can win.
