About the Author

Born in France in 1926, I graduated from elementary school in 1940 and became a barber-beautician in the countryside and then in Paris under Nazi occupation. I served in the French Army from 1946 to 1947 and married a local girl in 1948. We emigrated to Washington, DC in 1953 with our two daughters, becoming citizens in 1959. We opened a beauty salon in 1960, moving it in 1964 to the Washington Hilton, and then, with my second wife, Mary, to M Street in 1975 for the next 20 years.
