About the Book

Mother Nature takes care of her own. . .

Or so Lauren Lively believes until an incident with a local rancher costs her her job as a wildlife advocate.  After spending three years in Montana working to reinstate the gray wolf in Yellowstone, she suddenly has no choice but to return to Texas.  Her mother wants her back at work in the family banking empire, her friends want her back in the folds of the Volunteer League, and Peyton Wright wants her married, to him.  Lauren wants only the impossible: to return to her wolves.

Her sudden, bitter departure from Texas and the years apart have done nothing to repair Lauren’s strained relationship with her mother.  As soon as she can, she leaves the family mansion and heads to Magnolia Place, the ranch where she spent her happiest childhood days.  Rumor has it that no one has been to the ranch in years, but to Lauren’s chagrin someone is living there now—Jesse MacKenna, the man she once called heartless, the man she has loved in secret ever since her youth.

Lauren’s presence at Magnolia Place is a surprise to Jesse, and not necessarily a happy one.  She reminds him of a part of the past best forgotten, and she stirs his conscience when he least needs the distraction.  When Lauren investigates suspicious goings-on at the neighboring ranch, Jesse finds himself in a very risky place: at her side.

Who poses the bigger danger—Lauren, Jesse, or the rancher next door?  And who will Mother Nature protect when disaster strikes?
