About the Book
This is the story of one civilian turning soldier during WWII. Transferring from the Signal Corps to the Air Corps to be come a pilot. After washing out and becoming a navigator and being sent to Italy to take his part in the war effort. Then becoming a lead navigator and trading a pencil for a couple of Caliber 50 machine guns, thereby flying in the nose turret of the lead ship, meaning that he was the first person over the target, it could not be surprising to get shot down and become a P.O.W. It took six months to leave enemy territory and rejoin the U.S. Forces with the advancing 69th Division and then get home on VE Day.
About the Author
The writer was born in Chicago and grew up in the Humboldt Park area. Attended local public schools and had various part time jobs in the meantime such as paperboy, shoe salesman, apprentice locksmith etc. Had a couple of full time jobs such as office clerk, typist etc. and attended college at night school to study accounting. First car was a 1934 DeSoto convertible in 1937. After the war, resumed studies under the G.I. Bill and took and final passed the C.P.A. exam. Got married and have three children who have long since left the nest.
