About the Book

When The Ugly Comes propels the reader into a compelling and provocative escape into the deep, sultry south. The year is 1955. When Dr. Warner Rutherford, a colored doctor, opens a clinic in the tiny town of Marigold, Alabama, a wealthy councilman and KKK member demands Rutherford leave town. The consequences of Rutherford’s refusal turn deadly. Fate leads him to Margaret, a young white woman used to the ugliness of life, and her father, an endearing prison guard. But will fate or something greater give them the strength to survive? From the mysterious death of the councilman’s secretive wife to the accusation of Rutherford as a murderer -lies, passion, and untold horrors will strip this southern town before it learns evil lies within the heart not the skin.
