BALAN REDFIELD - almost handsome, almost tall, intelligent, sensitive, Jewish. Psychologically maimed in his youth, he matures with many doubts about himself: his looks, his masculinity, his Jewishness. One unconsummated love affair intensifies his frustrations. In the constant social rat race of the Borscht Belt resort circuit he wanders through and after affairs with the wrong women, searching merely for that “one right girl” who can settle his doubts and fill his life. Through a violent drowning, a near-rape, a death and an almost-fatal auto accident, SAY UNCLE spans two generations, with a potpourri of personalities molding Balan through their love, desire and need for whatever his special magic is -- a quality which makes it ever more impossible for him to find what he needs for himself.

About the Author

Robert Globerman is the author of BAGS OUT AT SEVEN: A Tale Of Too Many Cities, recipient of the 2001 Washington Irving Book Award. A former teacher and international tour leader, he won a Fulbright Fellowship and the Smith-Mundt Award and was twice named Teacher-of-the-Year. He lives with his wife in Scottsdale, Arizona.
