About the Book
A collection of twenty-five sermons. Originally addressed to college students in the tumultuous years from 1961 to 1987, they are rooted in the concerns of those times. And yet they speak directly, often in unnerving fashion, to our current 21st century concerns about societal injustice, human suffering, religious dogmatism, and political terrorism. These sermons are Christian because they affirm a God whose suffering love is redemptive, although endlessly at risk. They are Humanistic because they affirm our dignity as fragile mortal beings, who seek a good always beyond our grasp. Many of the sermons also take seriously the notion of America as having a special mission to the world, which we are called to serve even though we constantly betray it.
About the Author
Tara Allan transforms the pain of a life of disability and chronic illness into an unending love-affair with the mysticism, magic, and music of poetry. Sarah’s Garden is her second published collection (Stained Glass was published by New Spirit Press, NYC, 1993). Her prize-winning poems can be found in a myriad of publications: local, state, national, and international. Despite severe limitations on her energy, Tara edited her own literary magazine, Skywriters, and the anthology, Shadow & Light, to educate and advocate for others afflicted with chronic illness. She has received state and national awards and honors. She graduated from Pfeiffer University in North Carolina.
