About the Book
Angela, a long hoped for baby, arrives full of mystery, astonishing in appearance, beyond measure in intelligence, developmentally a miracle, but a complete joy to her parents and the team of professionals who volunteer to guide her progress. Why does she react fearfully to water? Experience pain whenever she even hears of violence? Have a inexplicable relationship with trees? She moves through her childhood, experiencing violence and betrayal first hand, as those nearest can only marvel at their observations while trying to protect her from a world that couldn't understand and would probably exploit her for all the wrong purposes.
"Burwell again at her best. Skychild is a treat for the mind. This is a must read for those in need of an uplift in difficult times." Patricia T. Dunn, V.P. Merrill Lynch.
"Skychild is a brilliant story -- pleasant and uplifting, elegantly written. Those who have lost loved ones will be embraced by a billion-mile cuddle and will find great comfort." Tony Glass, USN, Ret.
Comment from the Heminway First Novel Contest. (Skychild was one of eight finalists.) ". . . quality science fiction. A lovely story by a gifted writer..."
About the Author
In 1996, Barbara Burwell retired from her thirty year career as administrator and consultant in the fields of mental health and drug and alcohol. She lives in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, allocating her time to many activities in addition to her writing and her family, including five children (one deceased), nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.. Skychild is her second novel to be published; Matters of Choice, released earlier in 2002, was her first. “There are more coming,” she happily proclaims, citing four other novels being finalized. She brings a lifetime of experiences to her writing, and derives considerable joy from it.
