About the Book

The untainted childhood of Joey Ollafson takes an ugly turn during his fourteenth year when integration of the local school system sparks controversy and racial violence. The nefarious pulp and paper industrialist Devin McGraw, who essentially owns the town and all of its public officials, is dead-set on squelching the whole affair, and it becomes clear that there can be no meaningful prosecution and hence no justice unless the Feds are brought in. Joey and his family become so entwined in the saga that they are forced underground while the ends of justice hang in the balance.
