About the Book
In 1913, Anna Blum’s family boarded a ship, leaving behind the only life they had ever known in the small village of Norka, Russia, to immigrate to a new world. Fleeing the coming war, fearing their only son would be drafted to serve mother Russia, these Russian Germans forged ahead with nothing but hope and determination. Unable to speak or understand the English language when they arrived, this stoic German family sought opportunities for a better life.
Born and raised on a farm in Lincoln, Nebraska, Harold Brisack grew up a fun-loving, hard-working boy. As a young man, he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. When, at seventeen years of age, he met Anna Blum, his life was to change forever. The two eventually united in marriage and struggled to raise a large family during the Great Depression years. Moving to Oregon in 1945, a new chapter was written in the family history.
This is the love story of these two people and the legacy they left to future generations. It is from Russia, to Oregon, with love.
