The equestrian must respect the horse’s size, for his power can be injurious to the handler, if resistance or rebellion is expressed by the animal. Riders must pursue the sport with patience and caution, with personal safety at the forefront, or major accidents can occur when least expected. Without proper knowledge and skills, the rider does a disservice to the honorable steed. The horse will always be the equestrian’s best teacher providing new discoveries that enlighten for a lifetime.
About the Author
Barbara Johanna Janesick, MPH; REHS As a graduate of California Polytechnic University with a degree in Microbiology, she took several horse classes in horsemanship, equine reproduction, show judging, and Arabian horse equitation. The equine lectures and riding instructions at the University were wonderful experiences that gave her knowledge and insight about horse management and equestrian riding skills. Bently J. Blue, DVM, MS Dr. Blue graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology at the University of Washington located in Seattle, Washington. He acquired his Masters degree in Equine Physiology and Reproduction and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. Currently practicing in Orange County, California, his services encompasses equine medicine, lameness, surgery, and reproduction.
