About the Book

The untold story of Sam Speed and his friends and family as reconstructed from fragments of manuscript recently recovered from secret repositories where they had been stored to prevent their destruction by the forces for good rampaging through rural America in the early days of the twentieth century.

About the Author

Born in New Hampshire in the banner year of 1924, R.L. Fenerty has pursued numerous careers without managing to catch any of them.  At one time or another he has been a weatherman in the Navy, a fruit farmer, a door to door manure spreader salesman, a Realtor®, a licensed Professional Engineer, a locomotive assembler and a meddler in local politics.  He has dug wells, restored and built houses and, at the age of thirteen, drove a team in the woods hauling out hurricane logs.

With Helen, his wife of fifty-three years, he has driven back and forth across the U.S., Canada and England just looking.  Actually, since he and Helen have been married since he was twenty-one, it’s appropriate in most places in here to substitute ‘they’ for ‘he’.  That won’t happen, however, since he is an unreconstructable male chauvinist.  The reader should just assume that most of the time Helen was there, too.

Being a child of the thirties and the depression, Fenerty has always felt that rich meant three assured meals a day and judging by that standard, he has been wealthy for most of his life.  All except for the first fourteen years or so.  Given this wealth, he has been able to devote much of his time to thinking about stuff  like if you wrote a book about Tom Swift and his electrical ying-yang, how would it go?

His heroes include Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Walt Kelly and Giovanni Guareschi.
