About the Book

About the Author

W.F. Peate has lived and worked in Somalia refugee camps, the reservations of Northern Arizona, inner-city Watts and the barrios of Tucson.  From his mother’s side he is a fourth Native American. His father was an immigrant from war-torn Europe.

He was a scholarship student at Stanford where he received a B.A. in International Relations and was Phi Beta Kappa.  He earned graduate degrees in medicine from Dartmouth and public health from Harvard. He has served on the faculty of the University of Arizona since 1984 where he teaches international environmental and occupational health.  He has been a physician consultant to Fortune 500 companies and the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale.  In addition to his medical and health policy background, his writing has appeared in Newsweek, and other journals and books

He lives with his wife and three daughters outside of Tucson at the site of thousand-year-old Hohokam ruins
