About the Book

BOOK ONE

Beauty pageants are known for attracting beautiful angels who are trying to win fame, fortune and very wealthy suitors. Some are content to just get recognized, but most gain only tarnished tiaras.

Jackie Parker, former Marine, former cop, graduate of the FBI Training Academy and current Private Investigator inadvertently gets involved with a bevy of star-struck beauties that follow the pageantry circuit. He gets conned and robbed by one and involved with others in his search for her.

Parker’s rugged and handsome features get him in deep with some of the beauties and he gets beaten and left to drown and endures threats to his life when he survives.

He discovers a gruesome multi-murder and uses his training and wits to help the local police solve the killings.

BOOK TWO

THE EMPTY HAMMOCK

In need of a vacation after the strains of surviving  and solving a multiple murder case, Parker seeks out a travel agent friend who books him in an old house on a sparsely settled stretch of the coast of Maine.  More troubles begin on his first day at the house when he finds an attractive young woman already occupying the house.

Agreeing to stay out of each other’s way, he allows her to stay but they soon discover that there are mysterious happenings in the house that local residents claim is haunted.  An empty hammock that refuses to be still, even in calm weather, seems to be the focal point for many of the strange occurrences and sightings.

The young woman’s mother is suspected of being the apparition that is trying to lure her to her death, but Parker’s law enforcement training has him looking for a more human cause. The woman’s mother disappeared mysteriously a quarter of century before and Amy, the daughter, is determined to find out how and where she is.

Some near-death occurrences and some scary, spine-chilling situations are overcome to discover the secrets of the old house.

The rich and storied flavor of Maine and its people are found in this exciting story.

About the Author

Jerry McConnell is a long-time resident of the planet earth. He has been on or very nearly on four of the world's seven continents. He has been to seventeen of the world's countries. McConnell has participated in one major military wartime combat operation and has lived through several other major and minor wars, incidents, rebellions, and campaigns. This background has provided him with lots of material to be condensed into stories and he wants to share one of these in this book titled Gary's Miss-Adventures. It is a mostly fictional story of a young man who came of age during World War II, but didn't become a whole man until he was twenty-five years old. Some of the incidents in the book are loosely based on the lives of persons with whom he had intimate personal knowledge as he grew into manhood. But, as stated above, it is mostly fictional.
