About the Book

"ON THE ROAD WITH THE TWO GORDONS" is an account of various experiences Gail Munford had as the wife of musical arranger/conductor, Gordon Munford, and his artists, primarily, Gordon MacRae.  Munford was MacRae's musical director for over thirteen years.

All three all pushed a lot living into their road trips in a fast paced business and most of it was very enjoyable.  They went to new places, Hawaii, Florida, Bermuda and New Orleans to name a few; met wonderful people like Joe Di Maggio, Bob Hope, a sitting President and the First Lady; ate great food from pheasant to phefinous; and made beautiful music.  Traveling with a "star" was special, and they were treated very well.

Gordon MacRae, of course, had his personal ups and downs through this period from his need for girl friends on the road to his alcoholism. Some times spent with him were wonderful while others were disastrous. The last few years detail his sobriety and finally his stroke.

Gordon Munford worked for numerous other artists as well during this time including Billy Daniels, Jane Powell, John Raitt, Melba Moore, Gisele MacKenzie, famed songwriter, Bernie Wayne, and the Munford's  "cupid", Marilyn Michaels.   Gail has included some background on her show business travels before meeting Gordon which were with singer/impressionist/actress, Marilyn Michaels, like when she starred in the TV series, "KOPYKATS", which was taped in London, England.  Also, how her association with Marilyn led to her meeting Gordon Munford.

Gail chronicles Gordon Munford's career as a  highly successful, respected symphonic pops arranger/conductor.   She details his most significant arrangement, "THE 1865 OVERTURE", a musical history of our nation using American music to celebrate patriotic occasions, which has been performed by hundreds of orchestras throughout the country. Gordon has conducted a lot of orchestras in the United States and Canada in pops symphonic concerts.  However, he has  also been the musical director for many musical theatre performances, including on Broadway,  industrial shows for such corporations as Coca-Cola, and for numerous night club gigs.

This book will give the reader some insights as to life on the road in show business with several well known celebrities .  It is also a collection of incidents Gail Munford experienced as she traveled on the road with the two Gordons, her husband, Gordon Munford, and his main artist, Gordon MacRae.

About the Author

Gail Munford misses her years on the road with the two Gordons. She speaks to and corresponds with many of the people she and her husband met in those years. Gordon still writes musical arrangements and is active in the musical community of Las Vegas, Nevada where they now reside. Gail has become involved in politics and has worked for the last two presidential campaigns.
