About the Book

“Nalani of Hawaii,” takes place mainly on the islands of Oahu and the Big Island of Hawaii. Myrna felt since she was most familiar with these particular islands, her descriptions would become as alive for the reader as they did for her while she was writing them. She wants her readers to feel as though they are right in the scenes with her.

Nalani, thirty and single has deferred marriage in order to become a lawyer and help her people to better their lives. However, she now finds herself wishing for a family like her sisters, and feeling as though she may not ever find a husband and have children of her own. She achieves her first ambition as a lawyer when she becomes a campaign manager for Cliff, a candidate for Governor of Hawaii, who thinks as she does about helping her people.

Her stumbling block to love has always been a crush she’s carried for Mark, an old high school friend of her brothers. When she sees him for the first time after many years, he is the campaign manager for her opponent, the incumbent governor. She can’t stand the issues her opponent is proposing and feels they are all wrong for Hawaii and her people. After meeting Mark a few times and hearing his calloused remarks about issues closest to her heart, she realizes that she held on to her old crush all those years, as a crutch. As long as she could think about Mark, it kept her from falling in love with anyone else. It worked and she had finished law school and was now in a position to help her people.

She was finally free to find love, but when Chad, a handsome local rancher from the Big Island, shows a serious interest in her,she is afraid to fall for someone without a higher education like her own..

She manages to forget him as she plunges into the political campaign, working side by side with her boss, Cliff, the candidate for governor.

She travels in many different strata of island life during the campaign, enabling the reader to see life behind the beach scene of Waikiki.

Her own personal life is entertwined with family, a friend in trouble, local island people, a certain Hawaiian rancher, and a new interest in Cliff whom she discovers is in love with her. Find out what happens next.
