About the Book

The story of Maria is a short biography of the most interesting person that I ever knew. Maria was born during the years of the Germany take over of the Austrian Government. Her early memories are of soldiers parading in the city square. Later she remembers hearing the bombing around Munich and Linz. By the age of ten the American occupied the city. She was now in her glory learning to speak English with the American soldiers. After fifteen years of age and five years of letter writing, Maria decided to marry an American and start housekeeping in American at the age of seventeen. In the States Maria really became a lady. She was in many originations helping people. Unfortunately Maria had TB in her child hood. This wreaked her and led to her early death on March 13, 2000.


About the Author

Lloyd E. Hixon was born on May 12, 1918 in Milford, Massachusetts. He graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1936 from Milford High School. In 1941 he received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. During World War II, Mr. Hixon served with Co. C of the 101st Engineers of the 26th Infantry Division in the European Theater. While stationed in the Austrian city of Ried, Mr. Hixon met Maria Gärner who he married on June 21, 1952.
