About the Book
John Coulter and his friends had worked too long and hard, building their spreads to let a crook, who hid behind a tin star, rustle them blind. He knew that whoever gunned a lawdog down would have to leave New Mexico. So after warning his friends to stay clear of the fracas, he rode into town aiming to clear Antler of the unsavory characters who had taken over. The mission was accomplished and Coulter signed over his ranch to Rom Bowker for one dollar, against the day when he could return to Stag Valley. Many years later a brief note from Rom catches up with John, better known to his friends as Chill Wind, at his ranch down on the Rio. His old pards are in trouble again. The same stripe polecats were smelling up the range around Antler with murder and rustling. He longs to go to the aid of his old compadres. But too much time has passed. His son, Blake, goes instead, assisted by two faithful sidekicks, Jim and Joe.
