About the Book

Newly elected and popular Ravalli County Sheriff, Charles Perry, enjoying his ‘honeymoon’ relationship with the folks in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, finds that the table has turned and turned ugly when a Superior Court Judge and his secretary are abducted.  Right away the Federal Government becomes involved and points the finger at a local rancher and his grandson.  The ranchers, neighbors and friends do not believe that he could possibly be involved and take it upon themselves to interfere and help their friend.  The Sheriff finds himself caught between following the letter of the law and upholding his duty to the citizens of the county.  Although circumstantial evidence points to the rancher, he, his team of detectives and deputies find contradictory evidence as the mystery unravels.  The reader is taken on a fast pace ride of intrigue and mystery as  FBI intelligence comes into conflict with gut-feeling common sense.

About the Author

Novelist David A. Merrick lives with his wife, Leona, in Western Montana. Although his college major was Physics with a minor in Computer Science, it was literature that he has enjoyed most. Upon retirement, he decided to write a novel, just to prove that he could do it. The result was Blodgett, a fast moving mystery set in the mountains and valleys of Western Montana. Not satisfied with one, he decided to write a sequel. “This one so much better,” he says of the novel, To Deny and Disparage, and is already preparing a third in the series to be released sometime 2004-2005.
