The Story of David faithfully follows his Bible history: from David’s early record of a shepherd boy to a mighty king, from man of war to one who contemplates a better way. David’s deep love for God carries him beyond disappointments to gratitude to God. As David ages, he becomes more introspective; he becomes a real-life character with deep spiritual longings. All familiar Bible characters are here—Saul, Jonathan, Bathsheba, Absolom— but seen from David’s perspective. The poetic form used gives the author, a published poet, opportunity to use language befitting the ecstasy of David’s emotions.
