These tales appeal to traditions and imaginative readers from 9 upwards! The first tale asserts belief in “heaven” and demonstrates how the absence of that belief leads to nightmare, as Serena and Gar discover. They are dramatically rescued by a young black friend. The second suggests that philosophical and religious ideas are correct in showing how “self-esteem” becomes hollow egomania. The four bears, a chief and his princess, and a crow help to keep Rebecca and Raphael safe, and show them that all is not lost so long as they have the Great Spirit and nature.
