About the Book
Each of the stories in this volume reflects, in one way or another, the multiracial and multiethnic character of American society. "A Girl Called Amelia" is about how the relationship between a white man and a black woman affects two white people who are planning to be married. In "The Odyssey of Ray McVie," a Canadian living in New York overcomes the difficult challenges and determined opposition he meets in his career and personal life. "Parenthood" tells how a young woman, who isn't Jewish, escapes the intrigue and harassment she experiences on the job by falling in love with and marrying a Jewish professor.
