About the Book
It is the era of the séance, blinking lights and crystal balls. Ann Marie Matthews and Luella Padgett, two young co-workers, visit a series of local séances where they meet a young man who looks familiar. It happens that he eats his lunch at the park across the street from where the two friends work. A mystery in his family unfolds in which his dead stepsister accuses him of her murder during one of the séances. Sam Bledsoe denies the accusation and pledges to Ann Marie and Luella that he will discover the mystery of the voices called forth by Madame Hortense. Meanwhile, Luella’s daddy, Mr. Matthews, has several of his old war buddies over for coffee and cookies after which the “buddies” begin to disappear. Mr. Matthews, who was badly disfigured and lame from WWI, is bent on avenging a wrong he believes was perpetrated on his wife. Both mysteries are solved by the joint efforts of Sam, Luella and Ann Marie and it’s romance for Sam with one of the lucky young women.
