About the Author

I was born in Saint George, Azores, Portugal - October 25, 1953. Polio struck my right side, July 1954. On 1961, I was submitted to Saint John’s of God Hospital at the main land for reconstructive surgery. In a period of eighteen months and five surgeries later, mobility improved dramatically. I returned, able to walk with a brace, helped by two canes. Until then, I literally dragged myself across the floor. On August 1, 1969, I came to the United States of America accompanied by mom, dad and three brothers. I studied English and Spanish in high school and speak both languages fluently, including my native tongue, Portuguese. I love French; unfortunately, I never got around to it. On the 1980’s, I launched a Portuguese radio program called “The Voice of The Azores”, being its host for over a year. My writings have been published in newspapers and acted upon on radio programs. I write Carnival plays involving music and lyrics with diverse plots. Some of these plays are produced by Portuguese organizations at the time of their yearly festivities. I reside in California with my wife of seventeen years. I have two sons, a daughter, two grandsons and a granddaughter. I like to sing karaoke and play Texas Hold’em, but my dearest passion is writing short stories and poetry. Watching children at play, I concluded most of them do not like to share their toys. Some will grow up too attached to earthly possessions, ignoring the basic needs of others. Therefore, “Haicus Picus Sharenitus” provides a tool that strikes a nerve through the animal characters inserted within its pages. If these creatures share themselves with humans outside of their kingdom, there is hope for humans to share amongst each other. Noel T. Cabral
