About the Author

Mary Elizabeth Furnald is the daughter of Eleanor Stuckey Mabson, the granddaughter of Sam and Sallie Stuckey. Although she was an only child, she grew up in a large extended family of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In the days before television, families spent time in conversations, often telling stories of family history. She felt the need to tell the story of her grandfather, who was a figure “bigger than life” to her as she was growing up. Mary Elizabeth currently lives in Montgomery, Alabama, with her husband Don.
