About the Author

The author was born in Pilot Point, Texas April 12, 1930.He moved with his family as an infant to Spur, Texas. At age seven the family moved to Ashland, Missouri due to circumstances associated with the depression. The author grew up in ranch and cotton country in Texas and farming country in rural Missouri. He joined the Navy in 1948 rather than the Marines due to the Sgt’s late arrival. Patience was never his long suit. He served four years and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a 3rd class aviation electrician mate. He had many work experiences in construction and farming during summers before graduating from high-school and college. There were numerous chores related to the milk cow, meat hogs, the hen house and outhouse , garden etc. for which he had responsibility as a child. His pre-veterinary and veterinary education was at the University of Missouri where he received a B.S. in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1958. He received a M.S. in small animal surgery from Michigan State University in 1961. He was a resident intern at the University of Pennsylvania and a faculty member at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. He did research in Leticia, Colombia while on the faculty at Bowman Gray. His professional career was primarily in academia where he taught, did research had graduate students and was director of divisions. He directed a research facility at the University of Missouri where he held a professorship at the School of Medicine and the College of Veterinary Medicine. After a short stint as Chief Veterinary Medical Officer for the Veteran’s Administration he accepted a position as Director of the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources and professor of pathology in the Medical School at SUNY Stony Brook. He retired in 1995 and moved to Tarpon Springs, FL. Today he devotes his time to civic duties within the City volunteering his time and efforts. He is a volunteer tutor in a program for teaching foreigners English. The gym is a regular part of his routine and has been for 14yr.He takes Spanish classes at the local college for challenging his mind and for enjoyment. He and his wife have traveled to many countries around the world and continue to do so. Cruising is also something they both enjoy and do. He keeps in touch with his high-school and Veterinary School classmates and scattered family by regular reunions. Boredom is not a problem
