About the Book

About the Author

I was born in Umulogho Obowu, Etiti District, Okigwe division, Imo State, formally of Eastern Region of Nigeria. There was no birth certificate when I was born, but my Baptizmal card which was signed and dated by Reverend Father LaHeif on Tuesday, December 25, 1939 indicated that I was thirty-six days or a month and a week old, which put my date of birth at November 19, 1939. I grew up under strict rules of Kaka, my father, who didn’t want me to go to school because he had a royal place for me in the family, but my mother was relentless in her endeavor to see me in school. When I did go, she didn’t stop there; she wanted me to be a teacher whereas Kaka wanted me to be a soldier. I satisfied Kaka’s hunger when the civil war broke out in Nigeria; otherwise, I have been a teacher all my life from age fifteen when I taught Kindergarteen class, so each day when I go to the classroom, I do so because it is my mother’s job, and I do it with my whole heart in celebration of her vision.
