About the Book

Lester is a young lion who must learn the secret of being king of the jungle before he can wear the crown that will be passed on to him from his father. He tries many different things to demonstrate his strength including bullying and bossing others, but the crown will not stay on his head. Lester must learn the secret to wearing the crown. Written in engaging rhyme, the story teaches children that kindness and self-control are true sources of power and self-respect.


About the Author

Leslie T. Dunn is the Executive Director of the Teel Institute in Prairie Village, Kansas. The Institute, founded in 1985, helps parents and teachers to develop character, integrity, and self-respect in children by providing educational materials to teach concepts such as empathy, self-control, responsibility, learning from mistakes, and respect for the rights of self and others. Leslie earned her Bachelor’s degree at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and holds both Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Psychology from the University of Kansas. She teaches college courses in psychology in the Kansas City area. She and her husband Tom live in Kansas City, Missouri with their family of dogs, cat, and horses. Her passion is riding, and her love of animals provides inspiration for her children’s books.
