About the Author

My name is Annie Ruth Cannon Lee. And this is my story. I was born in this little place called Cedar Bluff Mississippi. I was 4 when I really started remembering things. And there is one person that I will always remember. And that’s my grandmother her name was Ell, she was one of the nicest women I had ever known she took care of my brother and I. Our mother was there but didn’t have time for us. We all lived in one small shack with our grandmother, grandfather, mother, my two aunts, one cousin, my brother, and myself. My mother, brother, and I slept in the kitchen. And my two aunts and my one cousin slept in the same room as my grandparents.
