About the Book

Secrets and Consequences introduces Jake Carter, defense-lawyer-turned-prosecutor, as he returns to Boston to help his friend, the recently-appointed district attorney. Samantha Roman, secretly troubled in her marriage and by her past, has her hands full in her new position. She is confronted by a detective who doesn’t trust her; a husband who detests Sam’s work, her friends and her extracurricular activities; and a wealthy drug trafficker who wants to be rid of the bitch D.A. as much as Sam wants a jail cell for her nemesis. All Sam has is Jake who is devoted to her. While Sam is trying to repair relationships with her sister and husband, she cooperates with the distrusting detective to set up an undercover operation. With Jake’s help, they seize a cargo ship, the ship’s captain and forty million dollars worth of cocaine. Before Jake, Sam and the detective can make a devil’s deal with the captain to nail the trafficker, the captain is killed. Sam and the detective think they have the evidence to convict the trafficker’s son for the murder, but they know they can’t get the man they want. During the son’s murder trial, Sam becomes distraught over family matters that have long plagued her. Before Jake can help, Sam is murdered, gruesomely dismembered in what looks like the work of the trafficker or worse, a cult killing. The burden now falls on Jake to solve Sam’s murder and the captain’s. He gets help from the detective, but if he’s going to find Sam’s killer, he is going to need help from Sam’s sister who knows a part of Sam’s secret past but has secrets of her own.
