About the Author

In this, her first children’s book, Bernice Shaffer Coleman has fused her interest in children and education. Bernice is the third of five children born in Chicago to a southern-raised couple who shared their stories of growing up in the south. These stories inspired Bernice, along with her vivid imagination, and consequently she began to create wonderful fiction and nonfiction stories in her mind. However, it wasn’t until she moved to St. Louis and began to teach in the public schools did she began to put her God given gift down on paper and began to write. Thus, Jasper Williams… was born.
