The Interesting Pen Pal

About the Book

This story was born from one of my many experiences as a teacher. It was a year of wonderment and discovery for my students and me. Much like previous school years. It was also the beginning of my crusade to share with the world, the comraderie and connection that can grow from communicating with others effectively. Whether the communicators are from the same place or from distant places, communicating effectively can bring them closer. My story is about a student who successfully completed the second grade and is now looking forward to his summer. He is expressing his feelings about missing his second grade friends and many other things about the school year. He explains how his class wrote a lot in different genres and he tells about his favorite. He really enjoys writing to his pen pal because of the way they were able to communicate exciting events in their lives with each other. The story takes an exciting turn when their pen pal's teacher, Mrs. Green suggests that they get together for a picnic. The story opens doors for discussion on topics such as diversity and the importance of being effective communicators through the text and pictures.

About the Author

I am a teacher in Miami, FL. I teach second grade and have done so for the past ten years. I live in Homestead, FL with my husband and two sons. My hobbies are writing and playing tennis. I am a very spiritual person who just happens to be an introvert. I usually come up with ideas for my stories and poems when I am alone with my thoughts, but I also get great ideas during my every day activities.
