About the Book

Rose Alice has lived a life of hardship on the reservation outside of Russet, N.M. Abused by one of the string of men her alcoholic mother brings to their small shack in the desert, Rose Alice is taken under the wings of two Catholic nuns who run a home for abused and neglected Navajo girls. But Rose Alice squirms under the loving restraints of this place and hops a bus for California. There, she faces some of the toughest experiences of her young life, eventually discovering the true meaning of love and of home.
