About the Author

"Born in 1961 in Waterloo, IA, at the age of ten I moved to Durant, MS with my mother, sisters, and brothers. I joined the Navy in 1980 after graduating from high school. I moved back to Mississippi after serving four years in the Navy and made my way to Marietta, GA in 1986. After being in Georgia for less than a year, I was involved in an accident that resulted in a four month hospital stay. Soon after my release from the hospital, I was married and separated in three months. This is when I joined Providence Baptist Church in Marietta, GA under the ministry of Rev. Willie Scott. Although I had joined a church and was attending bible classes regularly, I was also fighting an addiction to crack cocaine. During this battle with cocaine, God inspired me to write. Writing became a relief for the valleys in my life and was also a source of strength to beat a four and half year war with drugs. Hopefully one or more of these poems will encourage a believer to continue pushing forward or more importantly ...encourage a lost soul to become a believer. Yours truly, Maurice Howard
