About the Book

ABOUT THE BOOK The federal Drug Enforcement Administration would hardly ever catch any importers or distributors of narcotics, were it not for confidential informants and information received from persons outside the agency. This is such a story. Snow On The Carpet documents the people and events involved in a plot that twists and turns, eventually leading to the entrapment and capture of a famous Miami Beach attorney who built a drug distribution network that stretches from Florida to Ohio and from New York to San Francisco. The attorney, Ben Kaufman, known as Mr. K in the narcotics business, moves his operation from Miami Beach to Cleveland, and the DEA has no idea where to find him. Doc Philips, a psychologist and ordinary citizen, finds himself caught up in the fast pace and excitement of a culture that he has never known, a whole world filled with drugs, sex, and violence. He teams up with a borderline psychopath, Fat Freddy, and a schizophrenic confidential informant, Tony Rose. Together, they work undercover for the DEA by making drug deals. But they almost get busted and almost get killed. When Fat Freddy steps on some DEA toes, he mysteriously disappears. In Daytona Beach, hundreds of pounds of marijuana disappear; in Miami, multiple kilos of cocaine mysteriously disappear; in Cleveland, safe deposit boxes filled with millions of dollars are mysteriously emptied. Doc Philips can prove that federal agents took the money and drugs; will he be the next to mysteriously disappear?

About the Author

Stephen Uman participated in many of the DEA undercover operations described in Snow On The Carpet. Since the book involved ineptitude and corruption within the federal agency, the DEA naturally wanted to review and approve the content before the story was made public. Anticipating substantial censorship of the material, Mr. Uman refused to comply with the request. To protect the innocent and avoid retribution, the first printing of Snow On The Carpet was under Mr. Uman’s pseudonym, River Banks. Mr. Uman, a former journalist and government official, has written stage plays, film scripts, music and lyrics, and a slew of newsletters. He is currently working on a number of projects, all of which involve exposing the innumerable private agendas and outright incompetence found in all levels of government.
