About the Book
The time is 1849 as Cynthia McAlister leaves Tennessee to join her aunt, uncle, and cousins as they travel west by wagon. "An Adventure," says Uncle Bob. Her parents and sisters have died, and she has no choice other than do as her aunt tells her. Their final destination is Santa Fe, where her Uncle Bob has bought land. He has not chosen to follow the typical route to Santa Fe from Missouri; instead they take a less traveled path through Arkansas and eventually through Indian Territory, and north Texas.
Along the trail in Tennessee, many things occur--some good, some bad. The author describes the daily activities of a typical family moving by wagon. Cynthia, or Cindy, finds love, sadness, pain, and happiness along the way as they leave the trail to travel by steamboat down the Mississippi River and up the Arkansas River to Little Rock. Experiencing the dangers and pleasures of trail life, Cindy matures into a smart young lady.
The author plans to carry Cindy's travels through two more books in this trilogy following the family through many tribulations.
