About the Author
Leon Cunningham was born in 1927 in Columbus Georgia. He received the B.S. in chemistry at Auburn University in 1947 and the Ph.D. in chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1951. Following postdoctoral study at the University of Washington, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine where he taught and carried out research in protein chemistry. He served for 5 years as Associate Dean for Biomedical Sciences and then for 15 years as Chair of the Department of Biochemistry, retiring in 1994. He lives in Nashville with his wife, Jean Swingle Cunningham.
