About the Author

Marcia O. Baits is the author of Visual Representation in Music Education, a visual approach to the teaching of music at the elementary school. Mrs. Baits, a pianist and elementary and music educator, received a bachelor of music degree from Birmingham Southern College, and a Master of Music Education from Wright State University. Certified both in elementary and music teaching, she has taught at the American Graded School in Sao Paulo, Brazil and at St. John’s International School in Waterloo, Belgium. She has also taught at the Early Childhood Learning Center in Columbus, the French Immersion and elementary schools of the Columbus Public Schools, the Wilmington City Schools, and the Dayton Public Schools, all in Ohio. Marcia Baits was recognized as “Who’s Who in America in 2002” and received the “Stone Soup Award” from the Dayton Public Schools also in 2002. She was recognized as “Who’s Who in the World in 2001” and received the “Educator of the Year Award” from the Columbus Public Schools in 1990. Marcia contributed to the National Anthology Poetic Voices of America. She is the co-founder of the Cedarville News and the Cedarville Opera House Society. She was the author, director and producer of “O Cedarville,” a musical play for the Centennial Celebration of Labor Day, and she was director of the Labor Day festivities in 1994. Marcia Baits represented her college at the Presidential Prayer Breakfast and the White House in Washington D.C. in 1969. While in college, she was a member of Mortar Board, Who’s Who in Colleges and Universities, Phi Theta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi Honor societies. Presently, Marcia is the music teacher at Edison Elementary School, a National School of Excellence of the Dayton Public Schools. Her son, Mark graduated with a degree in Biology, and her daughter, Anelise graduated with degrees in Marketing and Management from Cedarville University. Her husband is superintendent of Cedar Cliff Schools in Cedarville, Ohio.
