About the Book
The function of the judicial system is to protect society from itself. To this end it should have a philosophical base supported by a statute or book of laws designed to create and maintain a cooperative, cohesive, and compassionate society. In America the basic judicial philosophy is one of “individual rights,” implying that “rights” are the primary possession of man. The philosophy of “rights” is one that produces an individual that is eager to exercise his/her rights to the fullest creating a competitive, noncooperative situation, one in which the more unscrupulous will prevail. The more extreme product of this philosophy is, it unleashes extreme individual behavior on the pretense of exercising “individual rights.” To counter this you have a legislature writing laws in an attempt to curtail all aspects of human behavior within reasonable limits, an accomplishment they shall never achieve because of the following reasons:
1. At this point in time the philosophy of “individual rights” has become emotionally addictive. With this philosophy and with a lawyer, you can defend the most outrageous position. An example of the above-mentioned destruction, in my opinion, is that in my lifetime Americans have shot three presidents, killed one, and character assassinated two other presidents. That is not what presidents are for. This environment incubated the “Pet Rock” syndrome. We also have the Jim Jones, Rodney King, and Timothy McVeigh situations, the police scandals, the Robert Citron catastrophe, children killing children, children killing their parents, children killing their teachers, parents killing their children. We also have the spasm of workplace killings, plus the political and general election fiasco in Florida. Based on this, I think that something is seriously wrong no matter how hard you try to ignore.
2. It is deceptive. It implies that the primary possession of man is a “right,” something free, when the reality is that the primary possession of man is responsibility. The responsibility of the child in the crib is to survive; consequently it makes its needs known by crying.
3. It is divisive. It puts the individual or “I” first, and this is the essence of treachery. Look at the divorce rate in America.
4. It is destructive. It is destructive as a result of the above three.
The majority of Americans are Christians. The Bible, Old and New Testament, is the documented foundation of Christianity. Would it not be appropriate to make the last class of the day, in grade school and high school, a Bible class and introduce the students to the law, the Ten Commandments? At the earliest possible age, those children of non-Christian persuasion may take this class off to attend religious education in the positive religion of their parents’ choice. This is not an attempt to establish a spiritual society, although that would be highly desirable; this is an attempt to restore sanity to society.
Everything that exists, including societies, have an innate drive to survive. To this end, is it not society’s responsibility to demand of its members the maximum degree of responsibility they are capable of and to supply the means of cultivating this sense of responsibility through mandatory religious education using the Bible.
