About the Book

Ruthy Walker is the main character in the story. Her life was annihilated from the beginning, due to the foundation situated by her parents. The beginning of the story introduces you to the family and her background as a child. She was a good-natured person, with an impelling impulse. Ruthy was reared in a small town, in the South, with very little education. Her environment and heredity wrought and played an important part in her life. Her mother and father’s marriage was one to correct a gossiped secret, which had, insidiously, poisoned the town’s mind against her family. She was begotten while her parents were seeking pleasure, and reared in poverty and lechery. Ruthy’s mother died when she was very young, which disrupted and shattered every chance she had to live a decent life, due to her father’s being a drunkard, who seeked vile pleasures before her eyes. Because of humiliation, bitter arguments, and cruelty, on the part of her father, she ran away to New York, at the age of sixteen, green and without experience; thinking that she was worldly wise. A chain of circumstances enveloped her and she suffered many repulsive experiences. She married a man, who she had a daughter by, that didn’t deserve such blessings. Fate played the upper hand in the marriage, which finally satiated her. Deception, as well as other related factors, led her astray to prostitution and murder. A large portion of her years were spent in prison. While serving time for a crime that she committed against society, she became exposed to women who corrupted her mind and spirit, which resulted in tragedy, and further retribution. Throughout her life, Ruthy Walker faced a series of almost insurmountable challenges, which she managed to endure, overcome, and go on with “The Way Ruthy Lived.”

About the Author

I was born in 1923, in New Jersey, and raised in Dothan, Alabama. I attended Durham, North Carolina State College, and majored in English. I became engaged, and married an army officer, during World War II. We had three daughters, and lived in New York City and Philadelphia, while raising my children. I also lived in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where I was a restaurant owner. I finally moved to California, with my family, where I lived in the Los Angeles area for years. My husband is deceased. While living in California, I became a surgical nurse, and retired after several years of practice. I also ventured into Real Estate, and many other business endeavors.. My biggest ambition has always been to write my novel. I started writing “The Way Ruth Lived” since 1945, off and on, between raising my children and working. I hope you enjoy reading my book. Compliments of Levonia Anderson.
