About the Book

BOOK SUMMARY The forty-nine poems in this collection attempt to articulate the sublime, subversive, and stillness within the large rooms of the family house, along the light and dark shades of human souls and the shape of the animus within our dreams. Where and when are we awake? Which pictures that compose our lives are true? What goes on behind the cracks we gaze at in each other’s faces, and how do we read the light that seeps through those other cracks in each other’s ceilings? Each poem should leave an etching of images on the mind of the reader, suggest an angle of approach or interpretation not found in geometry, or find a weak chink in our social armor that when gnawed or broken open, might let us exhale.

About the Author

AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY Jonathan Gans taught fourth and fifth grade predominantly Hispanic students at Charles R. Hadley public elementary school in Miami, Florida for eleven years before moving to Montana where he and his wife –the jazz and tap artist Katherine Kramer— run their Rancho Picante, breeding and raising Quarter Horses for Reining performance and competitions. At a mile high and 25 miles outside of Bozeman, their mountain location provides a long sought-after retreat for writing and choreography, as well as dancers’, musicians’, and artists’ workshops hosted in the Ranch’s Crazyview Studio.
