Patricia Hickey Allewelt was born in New York City. Her parents moved to Stamford, Ct. where she was raised with her three sisters and one brother. She attended Merrill School for Girls and later New York University. She was a copywriter in several advertising agencies before moving with her husband to a farm once owned by his family near Gettysburg, Pa. her father in law, who lived in nearby Hanover, Pa. took her to see a statue outside a small country church near Gettysburg. The statue was of Mary Jamison whose family was killed by Indians during the French and Indian war, Mary was spared and raised by the Indians which killed her family, Patricia felt a strange relationship with Mary Jemison and immediately began to research her life.“They Called Her Pretty Girl” is her life story.
