About the Book
When three long-time writers became residents of The Albuquerque Grand Senior Living, the Writers Group was born. Not to seem elitist, we put up notices: “Com and see if you would like to join. Visitors welcome” To our pleased surprise, four others came— one man and two women who had never tried to write stories, essays, or articles, and one woman who had published poetry, but also aspired to write prose.
At our weekly meetings, each member was to write something and the others were to comment on the content. When the long-timers read excerpts from theft work, the others on theft level, commented on structure, style, coherence, and so forth, quoting editors and professors who had previously made theft comments on the work. Just at first, the new-timers wanted a topic “assigned,” but soon these members replaced the assignments with topics that interested them. Who needs training wheels when they could fly on original wings?
Striking and interesting items began to accumulate, and it only seemed neighborly to share them with others.
