One of 15 children, Dr. Debnam was a practicing physician in Wake County, N.C. for 50 years and 6 months. He delivered 11,500 babies and performed 4,000 operations. He is the father of 3 daughters, two of whom are medical doctors and one is a college professor. He is a deacon in his church, a trustee at Shaw University and a trustee emeritus at North Carolina Central University.
