About the Author

Dr. King has served as the Senior Pastor of the Salt Of The Earth Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana since 1990. He was ordained in 1989 at Little Bethel Missionary Baptist, Indianapolis, Indiana; the same church where he was licensed in 1985. Other positions held previously by the author include Director of Outreach and Christian Education, 1988-1990, Little Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and Director of Christian Education, 1985-1988, Zion Gate Missionary Baptist Church, Kankakee, Illinois, He previously published Committed to The Climb in 1994 and also served as editor for Cross Reference, a publication for leaders in both the church and the secular world. Dr. King has also been published in Preaching Magazine. He holds degrees from Purdue University, Indiana University and New World Bible Institute and Theological Seminary. The author is married to Dr. Gloria Berlanga King. They are the proud parents of seven children (Elizabeth, Marcus, Marc’, Michael, Eliott, Mark-Christian and Garrison). A bi-vocational pastor, Dr King has worked as a human resources executive for over 25 years. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI) and received IUPUI “Outstanding Faculty Award” from the School of Engineering and Technology in May 2004. Dr. King previously taught Church Administration at Martin University and served on the school’s Urban Ministry Advisory Board.
