About the Book
Purple Imaginings Book Summary By Barbara Gurman My poems encompass my love of nature, life and humanity and show how everything is interconnected in this divine process. I wrote the following poem based on what I saw and felt when I was looking into a playground, and its theme reflects my philosophy. “Our Life Force” Feeling a summer breeze through my hair, I watch two young people bounce a small white ball over a net, first on one side, then the other. Nearby, basketball players aim as their ball flows through a hoop, or springs off its rim into the hands of another player--their turn to fulfill their dreams when the ball goes into that magical place. Children on candy-striped beach towels rest, while others splash in puddles of water showered from a nozzle up high. Feathered iridescent specs of magenta, ebony and alabaster, drink from a pool of water--a manhole cover-- only a few feet away from where I am. Above a radiant, red-orange sphere beams its precious light on us all, a reminder of how important everyone and everything is, wherever we are in this grand scheme of things called life.
About the Author
I was born during a world at war in January 1944. A Dr. Spock baby, I survived inexperienced parents, orthodontia work, M.S. and more. In the midst of this, I Peer Counseled M.S. groups, facilitated Mediation and Spiritual groups, and counseled people. A divorce helped me give up being we, so I could be more of me and then there was poetry. Now this form of expressing and this new me, is learning how to just be.
